Quintessence '06
The 2006 edition of QUINTESSENCE - the annual national level technical festival of the department of Electronics and Communication Engineering, Govt. Engg. College Thrissur- was held on 11,12 and 13 October with the motto of 'taking technology to the common man'.
The inaugural function commenced on 11th with a welcome speech by the Head of the Department, Prof. Vrinda V. Nair. Mr.R .Kanakarajan, Associate Director, NPOL inaugurated the megafestival in the function that was presided by the former Principal, Dr.K.V.Narayanan. The 3-day long technical exhibition (Technorash) was inaugurated by Dr.S.Radhakrishnan, Professor and HOD of MCA and CSE, Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Technology Kottayam. Dr. R.P.R.Nair, Retd.Professor and structural Consultant, released Semaphore, the technical magazine. Mr.Jagadish. K. Vasishtha, Associate Vice President, Infosys, as the keynote speaker, held the audience riveted by his ideas on 'Communications 2.0-the new face of communications'.
Technorash showcased innovative projects by students from the department, including Complex Bank Security System, Smart Home using Voice - controlled Automation, Synchronous Traffic Signalling System. Pavalions from various technical organizations and a Planetarium were also present.
Day two began with La Doctrina, the paper presentation contest. The hardware contest, software contest and the Mock CAT saw stiff competition. The screening of an interview with Mr.S.Gopalakrishnan, President, Chief Operating Officer and Member of the Board, Infosys, by students from the department, was a special feature of Q'06 that witnessed a packed audience.
The third day began with Mr.Pradip Somasundaran of 'Meri Awaz Suno' fame, enlightening eager listeners on the nuances of sound engineering in his session on ?Current trends in audio in media?. The general Quiz by Mr. Pramod George was well appreciated, as was exciting the finals of Dolus Bonus. Besides , there was never a dull moment during the much awaited screening of the entries for the Animation Contest and Short Film Contest.
The valedictory ceremony commenced with the welcome speech by Mr.K.P.Mohanan, President of ECE Association and Prof. Vrinda. V. Nair, HOD presided. Mr. Narayanan Bhattathirippad K.P, Chief Technical Officer, Mistral Software delivered the valedictory address. Mr.Anoop .P. Thomas, ECE Association Secretary presented a review of Q'06 and Sooraj.T, student convener gave vote of thanks.
